    Another Renaissance is coming. '70's and '80's were also a dark time for Disney, and there will come a time where the current darkness will end, and the light shall once again be revealed...

    Does anyone know if Glen Keane said "The most challenging part of drawing Pocahontas is going to be trying to capture who she really is" at a private interview about animating the character, or if he said that when he supervised the other animators in the studio?

      They use animation paper. You can order it on Amazon. It’s very expensive, but you can get it.

    Pocahontas' face is definitely that of a beautiful Asian girl. She doesn't look Native America but Asian. Asian is not just the Asian-Americans you see in the US. In Asia, in small towns, a lot of women have angular facial features like Pocahontas. Not to mention that Pocahontas' eyes were completely shaped like an Asian and her cupidless full lip shape is characteristic of Asian women. Look at Shang's lip shape from Mulan. Her face shape and cheekbones are representative of Asian people as well as is the high forehead and hairline. Her long straight hair can be found in Asian girls with silky thick hair. Some Asian women do have silky thick hair so Pocahontas could exist in real life.

      J Mo, wow your very perceptive, I was with Glen the moment he discovered Pocahontas’s hair design. I was his SCUBA Instructor ( and his son Max ) and we were at Zuma Beach , CA preparing for our morning beach check out dives and while he was assembling his gear he looked over and saw this Asian girl sitting on the beach just looking out to sea and her hair was gently blowing in the wind, he saw her and said to his young son Max “ Max , go to the car and get my sketch pad!” He did. and he drew her hair right there and then. He look at me and said “ There is Pocahontas‘s hair !!” I asked him “ are you going to go over there and tell her ? I think she will get a kick out of knowing that it was her hair that she will see on the big screen! “ he told me that he can’t do that , that later it might end up being a problem. He was a great man and his son and wife ( Linda ) are some of the nicest people you could ever meet! I wonder if Max and Glen still dive today? I remember Certifying both of them and they were both great divers , actually that class they were in was my favorite class of all my years teaching. We all had a great time!

      @@Navigatorbythestars Disney that had a hard time figuring out what the characters in Pocahontas should look like. There was an old picture of a more historically accurate Pochontas, but Disney found that unattractive.

      What's he supposed to do, go into a Native American reservation and say "Hey Chief, I'm a Disney animator and I really gotta get this right, and although I see a lot of Asian girls on the street, I rarely see Natives, so if you don't mind I really need to walk around just looking at your women to make sure I get the drawings and facial features accurate. All right, thanks."

      4 years later, yeah. I can tell you the same, but Beast in his first scenes, like when he met Belle the first time, I was kind of scared of him because of the shadows, and I also was surprised of his screams. But in any case, they did a good job on him. The character is amazing, and Glen made a good job 💚💕

      @MichaelComia 8 років тому

      +XAVIERCUERVO, the magic for me for example with Beast is when people react with deep emotion to what is essentially just a series of drawings brought to life through animation and given soul and mixed with the voice and music. That to me is what is magic.

      Mostly a blackwing brand pencil. But like all artist and traditional animation, they just sharpen their pencils like a fencing (pointy sword) like edge.
